After much discussion and deliberation, the city of North Battleford's Traffic Bylaw has been introduced at city council.

The bylaw received first reading this week and passed unanimously. Second and third reading and final passage are still to come, likely at the next meeting in July.

While the traffic bylaw was introduced this week, a draft of the bylaw had been submitted to council much earlier and had been the subject of lengthy deliberations and discussions. Council went through the draft bylaw during a number of sessions, the last of which wrapped up last week.

Among the highlighted areas of the new bylaw include new speed limits. The traffic bylaw includes a provision for speed limits of 30 km/h in all clearly marked and identified school zones and playground zones between the hours of 8 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Licensing for bicycles for a fee has been dropped from the final wording of the traffic bylaw.
