Traffic stop leads to impaired driving charges

Battlefords RCMP responded to approximately 64 calls for service between 6 a.m. Friday, June 19 and 6 a.m. Saturday, June 20.

Friday

• There was a complaint that someone had broken into a vehicle overnight while it was parked outside a residence on the 1100 block of 104th Street. 

• There was a report that a black Yamaha 325 quad was stolen off of a property in the rural area of Battleford overnight.

• Around 9 p.m. officers went to a residence on the 1200 block of 97th Street after a neighbour called requesting police assistance. There had been a physical altercation in the residence between a man and woman and the man was no longer in the home when officers arrived. The woman had minor injuries and charges are pending for the male.

• Someone called at 10:30 p.m. and told the 911 operator that she had been assaulted by a member of her family and wanted police assistance. She then changed her mind and did not want to talk to officers about what had happened. She did not have any injuries.

• A Community Safety Officer stopped a vehicle on Highway 4 North and the driver, a 37-year-old man, was found to be intoxicated. He was charged with impaired driving and is scheduled to appear in court on July 20. The vehicle was impounded.

Saturday

• A 36-year-old man is being charged with sexual assault and sexual interference after an incident that occurred just after midnight on 103rd Street.

• Someone reported at 4:15 a.m. that they had come home to find an intoxicated woman who was a stranger in their residence. The woman left the residence before officers arrived, and she was located nearby and was arrested.

• A vehicle was reported stolen overnight from outside of a residence on Mosquito First Nation. It was located this morning in a rural area of Battleford with fire damage.

Five people were also arrested for alcohol related offences, there were two disturbances reported, four traffic complaints, five nuisance 911 calls and three false alarms.
