Trial dates set for Wilkie man facing weapons charges

North Battleford Provincial Court will be the venue for a weapons trial in July.

NORTH BATTLEFORD ‑ After months of adjournments and delays, trial dates have finally been scheduled for a Wilkie man facing assault with a weapon and other charges.

Darryll Glenn Sollosy is scheduled to go on trial July 20 in Courtroom 3 and July 21 in Courtroom 2 in North Battleford Provincial Court. 

Not guilty pleas were entered, stemming four separate informations before the court.

The dates were set during the latest appearance of counsel in the case before Judge Murray Pelletier.

On one information, Sollosy faces counts of assault with a weapon and failing to attend court while at large on a release.  He also faces a second charge of failure to attend court on a second information, and on the third he faces 12 more charges including careless transportation of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a prohibited weapon without a licence, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, possession of a prohibited firearm in a vehicle, possession of a prohibited firearm that is not registered, possession of break and enter instruments, operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, failing to keep the peace while on a release order, possession of a firearm while prohibited by release order, possession of ammunition while prohibited by a release order and possession of alcohol while prohibited by a probation order.

A fourth information is to be spoken to at the trial date.

On the assault with a weapon information, the Crown plans to call two witnesses. On the 12-count information the Crown plans to call three witnesses. The defence is planning to call one witness on the assault with a weapon information and one on the 12-count information; they also plan to bring a Charter application. 

A case management meeting has been set for April 26 at 8:30 a.m. in provincial court in advance of the trial. 

Sollosy was not present and his attendance was waived for the latest court date Tuesday. His charges stem from an incident in June, 2021 in Scott. 

Unity RCMP reported they had received a complaint that a man in Scott was assaulted with a weapon. Police say when they arrested Sollosy, he possessed a loaded sawed-off rifle. The charges have not yet been proven in court.
