Trial delayed for Sandy Bay man charged with second-degree murder

A trial was set to start April 29 in Pelican Narrows Circuit Court for a Sandy Bay man charged with second-degree murder but it didn’t go ahead. Thomas Johnny Bernard Ross, 31, was arrested in February connection to the death of Darnell Bear, 33.

A trial was set to start April 29 in Pelican Narrows Circuit Court for a Sandy Bay man charged with second-degree murder but it didn’t go ahead.

Thomas Johnny Bernard Ross, 31, was arrested in February connection to the death of Darnell Bear, 33. 

According to RCMP, just before 10 p.m. on Feb. 25, local healthcare providers were called to a home in Sandy Bay to give medical care to an unresponsive man. He was transported to the health centre. Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful and he was pronounced deceased. 

Saskatchewan Major Crimes Unit investigated, with assistance from Sandy Bay and Pelican Narrows RCMP and Prince Albert and Tisdale Forensic Identification Services. 

Ross remains in custody and appeared in Pelican Narrows Circuit Court April 29 and May 4 via CCTV.

The matter was adjourned until May 20 to be spoken to.
