Those considering employment in the trades will want to check out the Try-a-Trade tradeshow happening Oct. 26 at NationsWest Field House.
The event runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is being hosted by North West College and North West Career Development Partnership.
It is the sixth annual event, aimed mainly at students graduating from high school or those looking to enter the work force. Usually upwards of 1,400 people show up to see what career opportunities are available.
Jobs in the trades are in abundance in this region. Shortages have been reported due to retirements and to busy construction and economic activity in general.
As a result, there is plenty of opportunity for those looking to start out in various fields.
Several of the jobs are being offered by the City of North Battleford, who will be one of the local employers available to talk about career opportunities. According to a City news release, a few of the jobs include heavy equipment operators, (waste) water treatment plant operators, and mechanics. They are also the seasonal or summer jobs offered at their various departments. Opportunities are usually posted early in the new year.
Last year’s event included 34 exhibitors at 44 booths, with jobs ranging from construction and mechanics to hairstyling. Opportunities with the RCMP and the Canadian Armed Forces were also promoted.
