Janine McNevin was married in October of 2015 and loved every minute of her wedding.

“It was a vintage Victorian theme, with antique stuff, lace, gold accents, and it was a big wedding,” McNevin said. “We got married in the Catholic Church in Tisdale and then we had the reception in the RECplex, and that was a project to decorate. I went all out on the decorations, every detail.”

She enjoyed the wedding so much that she wanted to get married again so she could try different themes and ideas.

Her husband Ryan gave her a push in the right direction.

“He was the one that signed me up for the course,” she said.

McNevin travelled to Calgary to take a wedding planning course offered by the Wedding Planners Institute of Canada.

“We learned everything from the decorations to making connections with different vendors in your community and different venues… we also learned how to properly price things and run a business, how to start a business, how to market, even right down to how to do income tax for a business.”

Back home in Carrot River, Arabesque Wedding and Event Design was born.

McNevin said that aside from saving a bride and groom time and stress, a wedding planner can also save a couple money.

“They do budget plans and basically if you give them a budget, they will stay within and even under your budget,” she said. “That’s a big one, because lots of people think wedding planners might be expensive, but they actually can guide you.”

She also said that wedding planners can help with the entire wedding, or focus in on specific tasks a couple needs help with.“There’s also [another] kind of package, which is consultation, so they basically connect with you however many times they want, just on simple questions that they have, maybe they need help picking a venue and maybe that’s all they need you for.”

McNevin hopes to help soon-to-be husbands and wives across Northeastern Saskatchewan. Her website, arabesqueweddings.com, includes the following statement:

“I have a true love for LOVE! It gives me the chills to see first kisses, cute engagement sessions, and happily ever afters. I would love to share my passion for weddings with you!”
