Humboldt was hit hard by some vandals last week, but RCMP believe they have the culprits in custody.
Though two vandalism sprees took place in the first week of the new year, RCMP believe the same people were responsible for both.
In the first, which occurred sometime in the early morning hours of January 3, one of the police cars and the Humboldt RCMP detachment were egged, and a number of businesses were spray painted.
One of Humboldt's murals located on the north-facing exterior wall of the Sears building was among the property damaged by spray paint. A sign in front of Access Communications, the front of Curves, a travel trailer at South 20 Dodge and a pedestrian crossing sign were all painted with inappropriate words and sexual images, as well.
Then, on January 7, the vandals struck again.
Again in the early morning hours, a pedestrian crossing sign was spray painted with inappropriate images and words, as was a new vehicle at Colony Motor Products, the front of Sears, the back doors of the Humboldt Uniplex, the front of Curves, a set of doors at Humboldt Collegiate Institute, the front doors of Canadian Tire, a garage on 5th St. and a U-Haul trailer.
The Humboldt RCMP detachment was hit again, as well - two police cars were spray painted, and three were egged, as was the detachment building.
After mounting an investigation into the incidents, RCMP arrested two people - a 27-year-old female and a 19-year-old male and have charged them with over 20 offences in relation to these acts of vandalism.
The two, who hail from the Regina area, are facing 18 counts of mischief to property worth over $5,000, one count of making harassing phone calls, one count of public mischief, and two counts of mischief to property worth under $5,000.
The two will make their first appearance in Humboldt Provincial Court on March 7. Until that time, their names cannot be released.
