Fire crews were called to two grass fires Friday. Just before 6 p.m. they attended what NBFES are calling a suspicious fire at the rear of 1251 - 107th St. According to fire officials the fire appears to have started in some vegetation and spread to a couch and fence on the alley side of the property. Two apparatus and five firefighters were on the scene for 30 minutes.
The second grass fire was reported at about 6:45 p.m. in an area behind the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre. Firefighters found a small area of grass burning and it was quickly extinguished with those responding on the scene for about seven minutes.
A feared gas leak at River Heights Lodge Thursday turned out to be nothing serious.
NBFES responded at 7:13 p.m. to a call about a potential natural gas leak and a foul odor at the facility at 2001- 99th St.
Fire crews were directed to the tub room where the odour was coming from.
As it turned out, someone had spilled a bottle of toilet bowl cleaner on the bottom of the cleaning cart. That created the acidic odour.
The room was vented and maintenance removed the cart.
