Two people were injured following a collision between a car and a semi on Highway 16 east Thursday.

The collision happened around 12:45 pm. According to police the location of the collision was approximately 10 kilometres east of North Battleford.

The collision involved a semi tractor trailer hauling grain and a four-door Ford Taurus. Both vehicles were westbound when the incident took place.

According to police the Ford car attempted an immediate left hand turn from the right lane in front of the semi tractor-trailer. The semi tried to avoid the Ford car by diverting around to the right, but collided with the rear end of the car, causing extensive damage to the tractor trailer.

The semi lost control and ended up spilling the full load of grain onto the highway as it rolled into the median.

According to WPD Ambulance, the driver of the semi was treated and released on the scene. Police say, though, the driver was later treated BUH for a neck injury. The female driver of the car was transported to Battlefords Union Hospital right away and was listed in stable condition.

The RCMP say both vehicles were towed and the Ministry of Highways assisted with cleanup of the highway, and that cleanup caused a minor delay in traffic at the scene. They also say the matter is still under investigation.
