The Battlefords United Way annual fundraising campaign is in full swing.
This past Saturday, the organization's annual comedy night was held with Dez Reed performing and tickets are on sale for what is hoped will become a major money-maker, a prize raffle, new this year.
The main prize is a 2013 all-wheel drive Chevrolet Trax, sponsored by Bridges Chevrolet Buick GMC Ltd. Its retail value is over $32,000.
Second prize is a $5,000 home renovation gift card from Battlefords and District Co-op. Third prize is an LG 60" TV from Logan's Audio Video and fourth prize is an ultimate indulgence day spa package valued at $300 from Logan's Day Spa.
According to Brendon Boothman, chair of the raffle committee, the draw will be made on Oct. 26 at the Battlefords Best Tradeshow at the CUPlex. Boothman expects the raffle will become an annual event. The hope is to raise up to $70,000 from the raffle.
The overall goal for the year is $260,000, including a business campaign of $34,000 and a residential campaign of $15,000. Other fundraisers including the comedy night, Coffee on the Go, Jeans Week and the annual golf tournament. There will also be a Pumpkin Festival at the Frontier Mall Oct. 29, 30 and 31.
Boothman said this is the second year for Jeans Week, which will run from Oct. 21 to 25. The United Way encourages businesses to participate and let employees wear jeans for the week for a five dollar donation.
Monte Migneault, United Way board chair, said the United Way will also be benefiting from a Turkey Run, an upcoming fun run planned by Downtown North Battleford, the business improvement organization. Cash donations will go to the United Way and food donations will go to the food bank.
