North Battleford council is still keeping an eye on the state of repairs at a north-end car wash at 2112-100th St.
The commercial bays, damaged by fire last year, narrowly escaped the wrecking ball last year when council agreed to an appeal of a demolition order. Since then, council has shown repeated displeasure with the pace of repairs and council members have talked about possibly taking action again against the property under the Nuisance and Abatement Bylaw.
The owners, on the other hand, have pledged to have repairs done by June 15 and communicated that desire in a May 20 letter to the city.
At City Hall Monday, building inspector Jerry Wintonyk gave an update to council on the situation. He told council he had contacted the owner last week regarding their lack of progress, and council's displeasure at not seeing the work completed.
An inspection was done and pictures were taken, and those were communicated to the owner with a list of what needed to be done at the property.
Wintonyk told council the owner contacted him last week and pledged a contractor would be in the city over the weekend. A contractor was indeed on site, and while the weather did not co-operate on the weekend, Wintonyk said they make a start.
Wintonyk said they expect to have the work totally done on the outside and the inside fire damage removed by the end of this week.
"It is progressing very slowly but it is progressing," said Wintonyk.
For the moment, council is holding off on taking further action. Mayor Ian Hamilton acknowledged at the meeting that it did look as if progress was being made.
