UPDATE: At 10:15 p.m., Pierceland RCMP currently has in custody the male who barricaded himself Sunday in a residence of Big Island Lake Cree Nation. The situation was resolved peacefully and without injuries.
There is now no risk to public safety related to this incident.
The 38-year-old male, Jonathan Dufraine, was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant in relation to the death of Zane Kiseyinewakup, which occurred on Oct. 2, in Big Island Lake Cree Nation. Dufraine was charged with one count of second degree murder.
More than 30 RCMP officers participated in the operation. Among others, Pierceland RCMP, the Saskatchewan RCMP Emergency Response Team, the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit North as well as the North Battleford Police Dog Service were on scene.
The increased police presence is gradually decreasing in Big Island Lake Cree Nation. However, some officers will remain on scene to continue the investigation.

BACKGROUND:Pierceland RCMP is currently at a residence in Big Island Lake Cree Nation negotiating with a barricaded male who is threatening to hurt himself and the police.
The male is known to be dangerous. Pierceland RCMP asks that motorists and residents avoid the area of house 111 on the Big Island Lake Cree Nation and respect all directions provided by police officers on scene.
The increase in police presence in the area could last several hours as police is currently discussing with the male to resolve the situation peacefully.
