The Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation received a generous bequest for over $100,000 from a well-known resident of the Battlefords, the late Victor Pearsall.

Jerry Wintonyk, the chairman of the BUH Foundation's board of directors explained he felt "pleasure and excitement" to "acknowledge his benevolence," and that the BUH would do so with the introduction of a new initiative for the foundation.

The donation, for a total of $109,109.78, is to be directed through Battlefords Home Care for the purchase of capital and non-capital equipment.

Home care currently has 140 home support clients, 200 clients attending wellness clinics, 175 nursing clients and 30 palliative care clients in the Battlefords area.

Pearsall's bequest, explained Palliative Care Co-ordinator Scott Parker, will enable the foundation to help more palliative care patients stay at home with the purchase of new medical equipment.

Harvey Walker, Pearsall's long time friend and executor, was delighted upon hearing of the BUH Foundation's plans for the funds. "

I know Victor would have heartily approved of this, especially with his commitment to his community and to people in general," Walker stated.
