Viterra Scotties Day 4: Team Silvernagle takes first in round robin

Team Silvernagle pulled ahead of Team Eberle to take first place in the round robin portion of the 2018 Viterra Scotties Women’s Provincials.

“We’re excited that we achieved our first goal of making it to the playoffs and making it into that 1 vs. 2 game,” said Robyn Silvernagle, Team Silvernagle’s skip, at the end of Day 4, Jan. 5. “It’s where we wanted to be, we’re happy with how everything is working out and how we’re playing – the girls are playing great – and we’re having lots of fun.”

Team Silvernagle won a close game against Team Holland 6-5, and then 6-4 against Team Howard.

In that last game, at the start of the ninth end, Team Silvernagle had five points, while Team Howard had four. Silvernagle made two shots that ensured that Team Howard wasn’t able to make up the difference

“Definitely those two in nine were huge, to not give up a big end. We could have been in a little bit of trouble,” she said. “My two shots in nine were huge.”

Team Silvernagle managed the finish the end with an extra point, and Team Howard conceded.

“Every game has been a very good game. We haven’t had many run away games. Everyone is bringing their A game,” Silvernagle said. “There’s definitely some good competition here. We’ll have to keep playing really well to finish the weekend off.”

Team Eberle had begun Day 4 tied with Team Silvernagle. They lost a game to Team Howard 9-6, then won against Team Barker 9-5, placing them in second, meaning they’ll face Team Silvernagle at the end of Day 5.

Silvernagle said they’ll have to come out with guns a-blazing to win against Team Eberle.

“We played them our very first game and lost to them,” she said. “We want revenge.”
