Due to many inquiries, the City of North Battleford has issued an update on the progress of bringing in additional water supply and the imposed watering restrictions.

• The information regarding the samples of the surface river water showing no hydrocarbons does not affect the City’s plans or watering restrictions, as the river water has not been declared safe to process through the Surface Water Treatment Plant. There are no changes since the water intake was shut off over a week ago.

• The six-inch pipe that will bring water from the Town of Battleford to the City’s water treatment plant is now connected, flushed and is undergoing chlorination/disinfection. It is anticipated that water may be flowing by Monday, Aug. 8.

The new water supply will only provide approximately one third of the lost water supply that is needed to accommodate daily consumptions under normal circumstances. Therefore:

• The additional water will primarily be used to augment the water capacity that is needed to suppress potential fires.

• All water restrictions for outside watering remain in place until further notice.

• Carwashes will also remain closed until further notice.

• Laundromats re-opened Friday, July 29.

The City says. "We thank our residents for continuing to conserve water and finding creative ways to re-use grey water and rain water for watering gardens and lawns. We also thank our businesses for finding alternative water sources for their operations."
