The City of North Battleford has announced the water tower will undergo a thorough cleaning and structural evaluation in July.

It’s been 15 years since the last time the water tower was inspected and cleaned. There should be no impact on the quality of drinking water during that time, but there will be some disruption on the streets around the tower.

The City plans to block off the intersection of 12th Avenue and 105th Street from July 4 to 14 to allow crews to set up the crane and access the tower. Specialized contractors will begin cleaning the interior surface of the tower’s storage bowl from July 6 to 8, and again July 11. The structural evaluation will take place July 12 and 13, and takedown of the crane is scheduled for July 13 in the afternoon.

Depending on the weather, crews will be working from the morning until late in the evening.

“Residents living near the water tower will experience a higher noise level during that time and we apologize for the inconvenience,” Director of Operations Stewart Schafer said in a news release, “but we will make sure to be as efficient as possible and finish the project on time.”

Schafer reiterates the work is “a standard procedure that needs to be done on a regular basis to continue to provide clean water to our residents and to monitor the condition of the tower.”

He said, “The work will not affect the quality of the drinking water during that time – it will remain safe to drink and use.”
