Wildlife federation honours sportspersons

The Redberry Wildlife Federation hosted its annual banquet and awards night March 10 in Blaine Lake to honour its many avid anglers and hunters.

The Redberry Wildlife Federation hosted its annual banquet and awards night March 10 in Blaine Lake to honour its many avid anglers and hunters.

Once again, due to the tireless efforts of its members and volunteers, the organization catered a spectacular feast of fish, steak and all the trimmings to a hungry crowd.

Anglers were presented with awards for the largest fish. Men's category recipients were Glenn Lamontagne with an eight pound pickerel/walleye and Lance Lamontagne for a 23 pound jackfish. Youth category recipients were Kalon Krysak for boy's whitefish class weighing four pounds two ounces; Maddy Krysak for girl's rainbow trout weighing two pounds three ounces; Gavin Naharney for boy's pickerel/walleye weighing seven pounds nine ounces; and Kathryn Naharney for girl's pike weighing 21 pounds three ounces. Tirzah Naharney received both the women's awards with a pike weighing 21 pounds seven ounces and a pickerel/walleye weighing eight pounds seven ounces.

Hunters were also presented awards for the largest whitetail, moose, bear and mule deer. In the whitetail class Cam Sutherland received the men's typical with a measurement of 161 1/8; Terry Shewchuk for men's non-typical measuring 160 4/8; Lucien Lamontagne for senior men's typical measuring 112 6/8; Pat Shewchuk for women's typical measuring 157 2/8; Eric Zerebeski for youth boy's typical measuring 157 1/8; and Kaitlyn Penner for youth girl's typical measuring 95 5/8. In the moose class, Greg Krysak was presented the award for a measurement of 159 1/8 and Margaret Shewchuk for women's class for a measurement of 179 7/8.

Men's bear award was presented to Robert Zerebeski, 21 3/8, and women's class was won by Tirzah Naharney with a measurement of 16 7/8.

Mule deer category awards were presented to Adam Shewchuk for men's typical measuring 175 7/8, Mike Shewchuk for men's non-typical measuring 194 6/8 and Pat Shewchuk for women's typical measuring 163 1/8.
