Woman who allegedly hit a semi and kept driving with roof ripped off appears in M.L. court

Police say McDonald was driving with four times over the legal blood alcohol limit

MEADOW LAKE – A 27-year-old woman who allegedly collided with a semi and kept on driving with the roof ripped off was given more time to retain a lawyer.

Shayla M. McDonald had an appearance in Meadow Lake Provincial Court Monday on charges of impaired driving, dangerous driving, flight from police, and failing to remain at the scene. Her matter was adjourned until Jan. 24, 2022.

RCMP say they started receiving calls at 5 p.m. on Oct. 21 that a car hit a semi after the driver attempted to pass another vehicle on the shoulder of Highway 4 about 32 kilometres south of Meadow Lake. The windshield was destroyed and the roof ripped off.

Police found the damaged vehicle still driving down the highway towards Meadow Lake. They tried to pull the vehicle over but the driver refused to stop. They followed the vehicle through the city until it came to a stop outside an east side home.

Police say that McDonald was allegedly four times over the legal blood-alcohol limit.
