The 2013 SHSAA Provincial Volleyball Championships were held this past weekend at gyms across the province.
The Northwest was well represented by a number of local teams with varying levels of success.
In the 1A Boys' group, Medstead continued their strong performance in provincial competition. After finishing fourth in 2012, Medstead won the provincial championship in Colonsay, defeating Mossbank two sets to one.
Wilkie won the 2A Girls' bronze medal in Wolsely. After losing to the host team in the semifinal, Wilkie beat Rose Valley two sets to none. St. Walburg did not advance past pool play in the tournament.
The 2A Boys' tournament saw Edam finish third in Hepburn. Edam beat the host team two sets to one after losing to Goodsoil in the semifinals. Lashburn did not advance to the knockout stage of the tournament.
In 3A Boys' action, Thunderchild did not advance out of pool play in Waldheim. Maidstone also did not advance in the 3A Girls' division.
LaLoche finished second in the 4A Boys' tournament in Oxbow, losing to defending 4A champions Nipawin. The Bears from Nipawin won the match two sets to one.
At the 4A Girls' tournament in Assiniboia, Macklin took home the silver medal after losing two sets to one against Oxbow in the championship. Oxbow has now won three straight provincial championships. Despite winning two matches in pool play, Unity was unable to advance to the next round.
