Brian Fedler was a coach, administrator and a true fan of hockey. It was always important to him to watch his children play hockey, as well as his many nieces and nephews and everyone interested in playing the game.

He was a true volunteer for both hockey and baseball his entire life and was always willing to help a team and is what you would consider a true volunteer champion for minor hockey in the Battlefords.

Fedler passed away at the age of 51 in May after a long battle with cancer, but his spirit within the sports community in the Battlefords will live on. Battlefords Minor Hockey Association will be presenting Fedler's family with the Volunteer Champion award in his honour.

Fedler served as a volunteer coach for many years, coaching at all levels in BMHA and Battleford Female Hockey Association's system throughout his sons' hockey careers, and then later with his daughter. His coaching philosophy always put the needs of his players first and foremost, and he focused on making hockey fun while also developing his players. As Fedler said, "It's all about the kids."

As well as coaching, he served on the boards of directors for both Battlefords Minor Hockey and Battlefords Female Hockey for several years.

He will be missed by his family and all those he coached. Those fortunate enough to know him at the rinks over the years understand his contributions to hockey in the Battlefords were monumental and will not be forgotten.
