AAA Sharks fall in regular season finale

Stars forward Nara Elia had two goals and an assist in Saskatoon's 8-4 home win over the Battleford Sharks Monday night at the Agriplace Arena in SFMAAAHL action.

It was the final regular season game for the Sharks.

The Stars opened the scoring three minutes into the game. Julia Rongave beat Battlefords goaltender Rachel Mitchell for her fourth goal of the season. Battlefords tied the game 4:42 into the first on a power play. Morgan Fraser scored her first goal of the game with assists from Jetta Derenoski and Taylor Cave.

Saskatoon regained their lead 5:59 into the period on Elia's unassisted goal. Fraser tied the game again for the Sharks with 11:31 to play in the first. It was Fraser's 14th goal of the season. Jesse Starr and Sahayle Norman assisted on the goal.

The Stars took control of the game with three goals in the second half of the first period. Sophia Shirley scored first with 10:42 to play in the period to give Saskatoon the lead again. Kennedy Mann extended the lead to two with 6:34 remaining in the period. Katie Tupper added a goal with 3:16 left to make it a 5-2 game heading into the intermission.

In the second, the Sharks cut into the lead 6:10 into the second. Kennedy Jorgenson scored her second goal of the season with an assist from Derenoski. Battlefords made it a 5-4 game 2:30 later with Derenoski's unassisted goal. It was her 12th goal of the season.

The Stars pulled away in the third period. Brittany Heuchert restored Saskatoon's two-goal lead with 12:39 left in the game. Elia scored her second of the game and eighth of the season with 6:12 to play. Brooklyn Gillanders added an empty net goal with 1:21 left to make it an 8-4 game.

Mitchell stopped 29 of 36 shots faced on the afternoon. Karlee Fetch made 22 saves for the Stars in the win.
