Amy Weighton led the way for Prince Albert with two assists as the Bears beat the Battlefords AAA Sharks 4-1 Dec. 17 at the Battleford Arena.
Four different skaters found the back of the net for the Bears.
Prince Albert opened the scoring early in the first. Tylor Lindsay scored the Bears' first goal, sneaking the puck through Sharks goaltender Rachel Mitchell 2:18 into the game.
The Bears extended their lead with two quick goals in the second period. Brittany Yeager beat Mitchell 4:59 into the frame. Sierra Glass scored 1:11 later, giving the Bears a 3-0 lead.
Battlefords broke the shutout before the end of the period. Laura Harper got one past Bears goaltender Shayla Youngman midway through the period.
Prince Albert regained their three-goal lead shortly after. Caitlyn Welder beat Mitchell, making the score 4-1.
The two teams did not score in the third, but exchanged penalties near the beginning of the period.
Mitchell stopped 19 shots in a losing effort for the Sharks. Youngman made 26 of 27 saves for the Bears.
Battlefords (1-15-0-0) has now lost 14 straight games in SMFAAAHL action. The Sharks are out of action until a Jan. 4 game in Prince Albert. Puck drop is 1:30 p.m.
Their next appearance at the Battleford Arena is Jan. 19 when they welcome Swift Current into town. The game starts at noon.
