The Battlefords AAA Sharks hosted the Saskatoon Stars Tuesday at Battleford Arena and were looking to snap their scoreless streak.
The Sharks did that with an early third period goal by Taylor Durocher. The veteran defence leads the team in points with seven, as she scored her third goal of the season. Taylor Cave earned her first point of the season, as she drew an assist.
Jacy Akre was busy in the Sharks' net making 40 saves in the 5-1 loss, but the Sharks did an admirable job in front of her in keeping Saskatoon to the outside. The team allowed Akre to see most of the shots to make the saves and kept the traffic in front of her to a minimum.
The Stars led 1-0 after the first period and 3-0 after the second.
The Sharks killed off three of four penalties, as they were called for just four minors on the night. They had one power play themselves and were unsuccessful.
Amber Rennie and Kennedy Harris both had a goal and an assist for the Stars while Kori Herner had three assists. Karlee Fetch was the winning goalie making 25 saves.
Recently the Sharks had two players pass the 100-game mark, as Shania Rhinehart of Paynton played in her 106th game as a Shark Tuesday and defenceman Rachel Trach of North Battleford suited up for her 109th game that night.
The Sharks have the weekend off from league play, but zone camp will take place in Saskatoon.
