The Battlefords AAA Stars looked to get back to their winning ways after a tie on Nov. 21 in Prince Albert.

The midget Stars split the two games played at home against the Notre Dame Argos this weekend to stay atop the SMAAAHL standings.

In Saturday's contest, Argos forward Dillon Dube opened the scoring 50 seconds in the game from Elijah Francis and Jack Flaman. Notre Dame extended their lead to 3-0 with goals from Taylor Ross and Nolan Reid. The Stars answered back as Josh LaFramboise scored with assists from Troy Gerein and Spencer Bast.

Flaman scored the lone goal of the second period for the Argos to reclaim the three-goal lead.

The Stars scored 16 seconds into the third period on a Josh Bly penalty shot. Jordan Berger scored shortly after for the Argos, and Ross's second goal put the game well out of reach. Bast added a late goal for the Stars as they dropped a 6-3 decision.

Matt Kustra picked up the win for Notre Dame, stopping 33 of 36 shots faced. Battlefords goalie Ryan Rewerts made 32 saves in a losing effort.

The two teams were back at it again Sunday. Layne Young opened the scoring for the Stars halfway through the first period. Dube tied the game 44 seconds later for the Argos.

Stars forward Graham Gove scored on three straight power plays in the second stanza to put Battlefords up 4-1. Keegan Milligan scored late in the second period for the Argos.

In the third, the Stars held on for the 4-3 win after surrendering a late goal to Kaden Elder with less than three minutes left to play. Notre Dame outshot Battlefords 12-2 in the period.

Rewerts rebounded for the win on 33 saves. Dylan Ferguson picked up the loss for the Argos, stopping 23 shots before being pulled in favour of Kustra.

The Stars continue their homestand Saturday and Sunday against the Moose Jaw Generals (9-6-1-0). Puck drop for both games is 2 p.m. at the Civic Centre.
