The impressive bounce back season for North Battleford's Andrew Albers continues, as the local left handed pitcher is currently in Panama City, Panama playing with team Canada in the International Baseball Federation World Cup.

Albers is not only a member of team Canada, but he was the starting pitcher to open the tournament for the Canadians.

He pitched five innings, allowing just one hit and two walks to Puerto Rico helping his team to a 9-1 win Sunday. The Canadians continued their winning ways with a 3-1 win over Japan Monday and were on the diamond Tuesday against Greece winning 12-2.

Albers began the 2011 season in Fort Myers, Fla. playing A ball before getting called up to New Britain in the AA league.

Albers was 4-1 with New Britain in five starts and pitched 43.1 innings with an impressive ERA of 2.91. Albers struck out 34 AA batters this season and gave up just 44 hits and 14 earned runs, not bad for a pitcher from North Battleford who has had surgery on that left arm. It's an arm that has now taken him across the world playing a game he loves.
