All-stars announced in NSRHL

There will be no all-star game or skills competition for the North Saskatchewan River Hockey League's all-stars, all they will get is the recognition from their teammates and opponents as the season winds down.

The NSRHL announced Wednesday that Bryan Bridges was named the first team all-star goalie. St. Walburg's goaltender has helped his team to first place in the standings and leads the league with a 2.15 goals against average.

Rick Dallyn of Meadow Lake was the second team all-star goalie, as he has a 2.85 goals against average this season.

Wilkie's Will Rathje and Maidstone's Chris Hartman were named the first team defencemen. Rathje has five goals and 15 assists in 17 games while Hartman has two goals and 16 assists in 16 games.

St. Walburg's Taylor Thiessen and Meadow Lake's Steven Spencer were the second team all-star defencemen. Thiessen has five goals and 19 assists in 19 games while Spencer has recorded five goals and 16 assists in 18 games.

The first team all-star forwards included left winger Brett Harrison, centre Kyle Dodgson and right winger Jordan Fuder. Maidstone's Harrison leads the league with 28 goals and 24 assists in 17 games. St. Walburg's Fuder is tied for second in the league in points with 17 goals and 29 assists in 13 games while Turtleford's Dodgson has 13 goals and 17 assists in 17 games.

Wilkie's Barrett Penner, who is fourth in league points with 21 goals and 23 assists in 19 games, is a second team all-star. Maidstone's Rory Gregoire, who has 19 goals and 27 assists in 16 games, is the second team centre. The second all-star team's left winger is Meadow Lake's Cole Fern, who has 13 goals and 18 assists in 16 games.

Results from last week had Wilkie win 7-3 over Spiritwood Tuesday. Saturday, Edam beat Turtleford 10-7. Friday, Maidstone beat Wilkie 3-1, Paradise Hill beat Spiritwood 2-1 and St. Walburg downed Edam 5-3.

As of Thursday, there were seven games remaining and not one team is locked into their spot in the standings.

Meadow Lake trails St. Walburg by three points for top spot and the two rivals will face off Saturday with the winner likely earning first place. If Meadow Lake can also win Sunday against Spiritwood they will take first place.

Wilkie and Maidstone are tied with 24 points, but Maidstone has three games remaining while Wilkie has just one game to play.

Turtleford leads Edam by a point in the battle for fifth spot. The Turtleford Tigers have two games remaining while Edam has just one.

In the seventh and eighth place battle, Paradise Hill has a one-point lead on Spiritwood, as both teams have two games remaining.
