Saturday and Sunday saw the return of the fourth-annual open basketball tournament at the NationsWEST Field House.
This annual summer tournament has attracted teams throughout the prairies to North Battleford. This year’s tournament has expanded to include a new under-18 boys’ division and a new three-on-three women’s division.
A total of 17 teams competed: five women’s teams, four under-18 teams and eight men’s division teams.
The women’s category was a double-elimination format and Boulanger Sisters, from Manitoba, beat Vanilla Twist in the finals.
In the under-18 division, four teams competed in double-elimination action. The team from Moosomin was victorious over Beardy’s Rebels in the finals.
The men’s division saw the defending champions, Babyega from Saskatoon, defeat Friendly Neighbours from Edmonton by a 63-54 final score in the finals.
The men’s division winners received a cash prize, trophy and hoodies. The hoodies were green in honour of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash victims.
