The Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League has quickly developed into a league where any team can lose on any night.
Four of the eight teams in the league played two or more games last week. Of those four teams all had one win and at least one loss in that span.
Spiritwood and Battleford are tied at the top of the standings with Cut Knife and Hafford both closing quickly in the rear view mirror. The top two teams were among those to split their games during the week.
The Battleford Beaver Blues went 1-2 over the last week with a 9-3 win over Glaslyn Wednesday on home ice, as Scott Maunula, Keegan Sparrow, Martin Smith and Mitch Phillips all recorded three points. The Beaver Blues suffered a 5-2 loss to Maymont and a 5-4 loss to Hafford.
Glaslyn earned their win over Spiritwood 5-4 Saturday. Adam Merkosky and Mike Windsor both scored twice for the North Stars in the win.
Spiritwood was1-1 on the week after beating Radisson 9-1 and losing to Glaslyn.
Maymont's loss came at the hands of Cut Knife in a 5-4 game.
Perdue had the week off, but all teams will be in action with nine games scheduled from Thursday to Tuesday.
As tight as the standings are, the scoring race is about the same. Kyle Brataschuk of Spiritwood leads the league with 25 points in seven games, six of those came last week. Hafford's Kyle Rivett and Ryan Scheafer sit second and third with 22 and 20 points. Colten Andersen of Spiritwood and Clark McNulty of Perdue round out the top five scorers with 18 and 17 points respectively.
Once the three games schedule for Friday night are completed the SPHL will officially be into the second half of the season and things are expected to heat up as the wrestling match for playoff positions gets more intense.
