Avengers, Cougars soccer game ends in shootout

Two high school senior girls' soccer teams battled it out in a regular season game on October 11.The Middle Lake Avengers hosted the Muenster Cougars in a close game that went to a shootout.

Two high school senior girls' soccer teams battled it out in a regular season game on October 11.The Middle Lake Avengers hosted the Muenster Cougars in a close game that went to a shootout. "It was a well-played game from both sides," said the Cougars' coach Chad Hofmann. "We were up 2-0 at the half, but Middle Lake outplayed us in the second half and tied it up to go to overtime."The final score of the game was 3-2 for Middle Lake.The Cougars coach says it has been a challenging year for the team."The season has been okay, we are in the middle of the standings," he said. "The girls have been working hard with only nine players this year. It is tough."For the team that plays in the seven-per-side league, that means there are only ever two spares at any given time during the games, not withstanding illness or injury."But the girls have played well," he added.Middle Lake is sitting in the middle of the standings in league play as well, according to the team's coach Trevor Otsig."We will probably play Muenster again in the 7 v 7 league final," Otsig said.Muenster is hosting the regional playoffs October 20. The four-team tournament will see two teams advance to Provincials, to be hosted by Middle Lake the following weekend.
