Award recipients honoured Aug. 18

The Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame has named recipients of several awards, including the Dave Shury Cup, that will be presented at the Hall of Fame Induction ceremony Aug. 18 in Battleford.

The Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame has named recipients of several awards, including the Dave Shury Cup, that will be presented at the Hall of Fame Induction ceremony Aug. 18 in Battleford.

Earning the Dave Shury Cup is the late Frank Germann of Wilcox.

During the many years that Dave Shury spent planning and organizing the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, many individuals willingly gave of their time, skill and knowledge and worked side by side with him to make the Hall of Fame and Museum a reality. The Dave Shury Cup is presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to the organization.

Jaydon Gartner of Macklin has earned the Maronuik/Marcoux Scholarship Award. It is offered annually to a baseball player, 12 years or under, to assist in their dedication and determination to developing natural outstanding baseball abilities.

Jaydon, 11, has been a member of the Macklin Minor Baseball Association for the past six years. He exemplifies all of the characteristics that a coach would want in a baseball player - leadership, dedication, hard work, and most importantly, a team player always willing to assist his teammates, according to a SBHF press release.

Jaydon plays all of the positions and excels at both pitching and catching. He is called upon to pitch in the most crucial games or situations. He is an outstanding offensive player with a batting average of over .500-hitting for both power and average. Jaydon loves the game of baseball.

Norm Bell of has been selected as the recipient of the 2012 Special Merit Award.

This award is presented to an individual who deserves special consideration for having contributing greatly in assisting the organization in accomplishing its goals.

"It is because of volunteers that this association is able to function and continue our fund-raising projects," the press release states.

Bell is a director of the organization and has initiated exceptionally successful and profitable annual fundraising projects that assist in the operation of the museum.
