Mother Nature has frowned upon the Muenster Red Sox so far this season.

The combination of a late spring and recent rainy weather has left Red Sox manager Garret Korte scrambling to make up five games that had to be cancelled.

"It's gonna be a busy July for sure," Korte said.

The team only has until the middle of July to make up for lost time, adding more scheduling pressure to an already busy time of year.

"Right now is probably the worst time of year in terms of scheduling," Korte said. "Exams are coming up, but things will begin to slow down over the next couple weeks."

Other than the weather, things have been going swimmingly for the Red Sox as they defend their Midget AA championship in the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League (SPBL).

The team is tied for second in its division with a record of 6-1, only two points behind the Regina Angels and the Weyburn Qmax Athletics. However, both of those teams have played three more games than the weather-cursed Red Sox.

"It's always a work in progress, but we're playing OK," was Krote's assessment.

Most recently, Muenster's game against the Assiniboia Aces on June 15 was cancelled due to the heavy rains in the area.

The team's next home game is set for June 23 at 6 p.m. against the Melville Millionaires.
