Two games were underway at the Battlefords Flats Wednesday, as semifinal action in the Battlefords and District Ladies' Fastball League featured the Battlefords Bandits and the Unity Panthers, twice.
In the A-side the two midget teams faced off while the bantam versions of the Bandits and Panthers played in the B-side semifinal.
The Bandits started the A-side game scoring a run in the first inning and added to their lead early in the game. Battlefords were in control 4-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. The Panthers rallied to score four runs and added three more in the sixth inning on their way to a 9-5 win. Panthers' pitcher Shelby Solomko kept the Bandits' bats at bay as she allowed just four base runners in the final three innings.
With the win, the Panthers advance to face the Northwest Vipers in the league final. The Panthers are confident they can play with the Vipers whose only loss this season came by a default.
The championship game was originally scheduled for Wednesday at the Flats, but game is subject to change because of other commitments for some of the Panthers.
As Unity won on the A-side it was only fitting the Battlefords won on the B-side. The teams both busted out offensively as Unity led 5-4 after the first inning.
Both teams continued to pile on the runs, as the Bandits led 15-11 heading into the final inning. In the seventh inning, the Panthers batted nine players and, with the help of some Bandits' errors, tied the game.
In the bottom of the inning, Keinyn Nordell hit a triple with one out and scored on the next pitch on a passed ball to win the game 16-15.
The Bantam Bandits will now face the Battlefords Survivors in the B-side championship with that game was also scheduled for Wednesday at the Flats.
