Evidently the 14U Barons have a talented team, look no further than their matchup against the second place Humboldt Broncos Sunday afternoon.
Nine points separate the two teams, but you wouldn’t be able to tell if you were at Battleford Arena taking in the game.
After the Broncos took a one goal advantage, Linden Bird went bar-down with a wrist shot just north of the left face-off dot to tie the game up.
Humboldt took the lead after notching a short-handed goal, but the AA Barons battled back to deadlock the game at two just a minute after. Leading goal scorer Luke Fennig found the puck in the crease after it trickled through the pads of goaltender Ryland Pronych, and made no mistake.
The Broncos made it 4-2, but the Barons continued to clash with one of the leagues best, coming back to tie it at four.
Late in the final frame Carter Sawchuk scored on a penalty shot, going forehand-backhand-forehand before depositing the puck into the back of the net, bringing the game to five goals each.
As he skated off he gestured to league leading scorer Logan Barlage, who had put up 42 points in 10 games coming into Sunday, and found himself in the penalty box for it.
Barlage ended up scoring on the power play while notching another goal late in the third to give Humboldt the 7-5 win.
One thing is for sure, this Barons team does not back down, and can play with anyone in the league.
Next up are the North East Wolfpack at Battleford Arena, puck drop is 5:15 pm next Saturday.
