Barons edged out by Vipers

It wasn't ideal road conditions, but that didn't stop the Battlefords Bantam AA Barons from playing in Warman Wednesday evening. The Barons faced the Sask Valley Vipers in the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League's North Division final.

Wednesday, the Battlefords Bantam AA Barons were eliminated in three games by the Sask Valley Vipers after winning 5-4 in overtime Tuesday.

It wasn't ideal road conditions, but that didn't stop the Battlefords Bantam AA Barons from playing in Warman Wednesday evening.

The Barons faced the Sask Valley Vipers in the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League's North Division final.

The day earlier the Barons won in overtime on home ice to force a game three. Wednesday, their season came to an end, as they lost 3-1 to the Vipers.

Neither team scored in the first period, and with less than two minutes left in the second, Brady MacPherson scored for the Vipers to take the 1-0 lead.

Four minutes into the third period, Brandon Lesko scored from Josh Sielsky and Jayden Nachtagaele and tied the game for the Barons.

Lesko leads the playoffs in points with nine goals and 11 assists in nine games. Sielsky is tied for fourth with seven goals and seven assists and Nachtagaele is tied for seventh with seven goals and six assists.

Sask Valley broke the tie two minutes after the Barons tied it up, as Liam Maley scored. Clayton McKenzie added the insurance marker for Sask Valley late in the third period.

Matthew Flath was in the net for the Barons and once again stood tall in the net.

The Vipers were 0/6 on the power play while the Barons were 0/5.

In the South Division, the Prairie Storm won in game three over the Regina Pat Blues setting up a Sask Valley/Prairie Storm final. The winner will advance to the Western Canadian Bantam AAA Championship, which will be hosted by West Central in Kindersley April 4 to 7.
