The Battlefords Barons midget and bantam AA teams are a couple weeks into their seasons and have positives to build on through their first few games.
The Bantam Barons are right in the middle of the North Division standings of the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League with three wins and four losses on the season. They play the last place West Central Wheat Kings Saturday.
The Barons lost four of their first six games, all of which came on the road. All three of the Barons' home games, however, have resulted in wins, including an impressive 12-1 victory last weekend over Notre Dame. After Saturday's game in Macklin against the Wheat Kings, the team plays six straight games at home. If the streak continues, the Barons might find themselves jumping over teams in the standings throughout November.
The team's point leader is Austin Bill, who has five goals and six assists through seven games. Meanwhile, Rett Taggart is at a goal-a-game pace right now to lead the team in that category.
The Midget Barons have played just four games and won three of them. The lone loss came in game two at the hands of Midwest, 6-4. They've outscored opponents 14-5 in the three victories.
The Barons are sitting in the thick of things at the top of the Centre Four Hockey League standings and have a favourable weekend matchup. They will be in Watson Friday and Saturday to take on the winless Rockets. The Barons play Sunday as well in a tougher game against Meadow Lake at home, who lost at the hands of the Barons 4-3 last weekend.
Keegan Tiringer and Quinton Cubbon have had hot starts as they sit atop the Barons' list of scoring leaders with six points each through the three games with available statistics.
