Bryan Forster began his baseball career in 1916 in Dysart as a batboy where his father was the manager. He progressed through the minor ball system and played some senior ball there.
He went on to win a provincial championship at the junior level with the Regina Sask. Wheat Pool Juniors, He graduated to the intermediate level with the Regina Balmorals and then up to the Regina Nationals. His defensive skills and power at the plate helped the Nationals to a Western Canadian championship in 1932.
Forster played in the South Sask. League until 1937 winning provincial championships with numerous teams. The late Tom "Scotty" Melville of the Regina Leader-Post considered Forster the best infielder in the province between 1930 to '36.
In 1938, Forster moved to Ontario where he played with the Lakeshore Minors AAA squad also winning a championship.
In 1940 to '45 he served for Canada in the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he was also able to play some ball with the RCAF Patricia Bay team. He was voted league MVP in 1944.
While in British Columbia, Forster helped to develop baseball facilities in Sydney for the Western International AA league. He moved back to Regina in 1952.
Not only was he a tremendous player, he also carried his enthusiasm forward in later years as a league builder in Regina.
His coaching ability was also at a level of AAA excellence, coaching in the Regina.
The late Bryan Lawrence Forester has done it all in the baseball world and will be inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame Aug. 18.
