It was a classic battle of the Battlefords on the flats Wednesday night when the Bantam Bandits went home victorious over the Midget Bandits.
The Battlefords Ladies' Fastball League game ended in a 7-2 final, but the score was deceiving in this one.
It was a classic pitching duel through six innings, with both teams having trouble getting the action going offensively. No matter who the teams put on the mound, the strikeouts kept coming in bunches.
Something had to give, and it did, in the seventh inning. The Bantam Bandits hit a groove to the tune of a four-run inning, breaking the game wide-open. The midgets tried to mount a comeback, putting up one run in the inning but it was too little, too late.
This was only the second game of the season for each team, so some rust can be expected, though both looked to be in mid-season form, already.
The midgets will have a chance at redemption June 10, as the two teams square off once again in what should be another close game.
In other action, the Edam Ladies had the bats working in their game against the Maidstone Ladies, taking the victory in that one 10-3. Other scores from around the league weren't available at press time
The BLFL season is now in full swing. The ladies play every Monday and Wednesday.
