Battleford Curling Club saw some high-pressure curling action over the weekend as rinks from across Region 14 battled to advance in the provincial curling playdowns.

On the line were three spots at the Northern men's playdowns to take place in Nipawin running January 19 to 22. Those playdowns will feature 16 teams, with five of those teams advancing on to the provincials.

This year's provincial champion will be staying close to home as the Tim Hortons Brier goes in Saskatoon at Credit Union Centre from March 3 to 11.

Eight rinks took to the ice over three days at the Battleford Curling Club. The A event wrapped up Saturday and the B and C events concluded Sunday to determine the three rinks that will move on.

It was the rink of Scott Manners of Lloydminster that took the A Event final. In the B Event it was Doug Horn's rink from Battleford Curling Club that took down the title.

In the C event Sunday night, it was the Robert Bakken rink of Unity that was successful.

The three teams began play in the northerns on Friday at Nipawin Curling Club. Bakken's first test was against the Carl deConinck Smith team at 1pm. Doug Horn was scheduled to take on Darrell McKee at 7pm while Manners faced Corey Martens, also at 7pm.
