Scott Manners and his teammates, who are curling out of the Battleford Curling Club, knew they would be in tough against the best curlers in the country.

After making their first appearance at the Brier, the Saskatchewan team looked to hold their own early.

Manners went 2-0, but entered Tuesday's action with a 2-3 record having lost three straight games and sitting in a tie for seventh place.

The playoffs are a ways off, but for Manners the experience and support from the home-province has to be special itself. With six games remaining (before press time) a lot can change for Team Saskatchewan in the standings.

Brothers Kevin and Jamie Koe have led Alberta and the Northwest Territories/Yukon to the top of the standings along with Ontario's Glenn Howard. Most teams are now at the midway point of their schedules and perhaps the most surprising start is that Brad Gushue's Newfoundland and Labrador rink, who were just 1-5.

Manners and his Saskatchewan rink, constructed of players from Lloydminster and Saskatoon, played in the afternoon and evening draw Tuesday. They will be back on the ice at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and 9:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Thursday, on the final day of round robin action.
