Battlefords bustling with sports scedules

The first night of the Battlefords Ball Hockey League was played at the AgriPlex, as six of the eight teams were on the floor learning the new sport and the different rules that go along with the game.

The Owls beat the Moose and the Grizzlies beat the Vipers in the Under 14 division. In the Under 10 division, the Hawks and Vultures squared off.

The learn-to-play and mosquito baseball teams were playing Monday night, although it was just practice and the mosquito league was expected to start Wednesday.

A peewee ball game was also played Monday night, but the locals lost to a Saskatoon team.

The Little Kickers and Under 6 soccer players stormed the Holy Family fields for 45-minute games, as it was the start of the second week of the Battlefords Youth Soccer season.

Jumping up a level, the Battlefords and District Ladies Fastball League was in action for the second night of the season, as two games were played in Battleford at the Flats. The Battlefords Midget Bandits beat the Unity Bantam Panthers 2 by a 13-2 score. The other game played at the Flats between the Battlefords Bantam Bandits and Unity Bantam Panthers 1 was not recorded.

In Unity, the Midget Panthers beat the Northwest Junior Vipers 21-11 and in Edam the Battlefords Survivors beat the Edam Ladies 8-5.

The Battlefords Senior Soccer Association also kicked off their season with ladies' exhibition action Monday night, the ladies will be back in action Wednesday while the men's teams play Tuesday and Thursday and the leagues are set to begin next week.
