The Battlefords Midget Stars will be happy to put the month of January behind them.
The Stars won their first game back from the holiday break and since then have registered just two points in the remaining six games in January and were bit hard by the injury bug.
The Stars did have four points in that stretch after beating Swift Current Jan. 12, but it was ruled they used an ineligible player who was supposed to be serving a suspension, which the Stars were unaware of. The game result was overturned and the Stars were forced to forfeit the game.
That loss means the Stars went 2-5 in January.
The Stars last loss came Thursday to the top team in the league, the Prince Albert Mintos, at the Civic Centre.
It was a bit of an uninspired game from the Stars, as they fell 6-2 and saw two local area players pot four of the six goals against them. Lashburn's Kylar Hope had three goals and Joel Blaquiere of Edam had one for Prince Albert.
The Stars had a shortened roster, as a handful players continue to rest and recover from their injuries and just one affiliated player was dressed.
Prince Albert grabbed the 2-0 lead after the first period and added two more in the second making in 4-0 after 40 minutes.
The Stars Josh Bly added a goal early in the third to give his team some life. Corbin Schmidt and Brian Hillis assisted on the goal. That momentum was short lived, as nearly two minutes later the Mintos scored on Ryan Rewerts to regain their four-goal lead.
Dustin Bast added his fourth goal of the season for the Stars from Bly later in the third, but that goal was again answered by the Mintos at the other end minutes later.
Bly was named the Stars player of the game with his 13th goal of the season and 20th assist.
Rewerts made 30 saves for the Stars while Tanner Burgardt stopped 25 shots.
The Stars have slipped down to sixth place in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League standings and will look to steer the team back on the right path this weekend in Moose Jaw. The Stars are seven points behind the second place Moose Jaw Generals.
