Bauer Conference earns all POW honours

If the first week of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is any indication the Bauer Conference will be good this year and feature some of the league's best.

If the first week of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is any indication the Bauer Conference will be good this year and feature some of the league's best.

The league announced their player of the week honours, as Tad Kozun, Brandt Weldon and Matt Hrynkiw, as the best in the league in the opening week.

Kozun was named the player of the week, as the Nipawin rookie scored five goals and notched four assists in five games where Nipawin went 4-1-0-0. Jay Young of Flin Flon, Todd Christian, of Notre Dame and Calder Neufeld of Estevan, and former Battlefords North Star, earned honorable mentions.

Flin Flon's Weldon was the top defenceman of the week after recording three goals and two assists in six games. Notre Dame's Carson Grolla, Nipawin's Jeff Datoff and Flin Flon's Tanner Clark also received honourable mentions for the opening week.

In goal, Humboldt's Hrynkiw went 2-0 and stopped 39 of 40 shots. Ty Reichenback of Notre Dame, Davis Jones of Nipawin and Justin McDonald of Kinderlsey were the honourable mentioned goaltenders.
