The Battlefords AAA Sharks played their first game on home ice Thursday, but it was the Prince Albert Bears that put on a show at Battleford Arena.
The Sharks introduced their 2012-13 roster to local fans, but after that it was all Bears.
The Bears lead 5-0 after the first period, 7-0 after the second and won the game 9-0.
Rachel Mitchell was in net for the Sharks and faced 47 shots in the win. The Sharks fired 15 shots at Prince Albert's Jessica Vance, who earned the shutout.
The Bears scored twice on seven power plays while the Sharks were 0/5.
Kelly Regnier led the way for the Bears, as she had a hat trick and an assist. Kaitlin Willoughby had four assists for the Bears.
The Sharks also announced their captains for the season Thursday night. Wearing the C will be rookie forward form Meadow Lake Emily Wilson. The assistant captains will be veteran defenceman Rachel Trach, Mallory Roy and Taylor Durocher, who have a combined 177 games played for the Sharks. Trach has the most games played of any active Shark with 89. Forward Shania Rhinehart has 85 career games played with the Sharks and the rest of the team are considered rookies, besides the two goaltenders.
The Sharks will put their 0-2-1-0 record on the line Thursday, as they are at home against Saskatoon. The Saskatoon Stars are 2-0-0-0.
