The Bears entered the Under 13 Div II girls' division of the Saskatoon Slam last weekend and downed the Regina Cougars 44-33 in the gold medal game.

Battlefords got off to a slow start in the tournament Friday evening with losses to Sandy Bay and the Cougars. On day two, the Bears found their stride and won games over Moose Jaw and the Saskatoon Slam.

The team finished with a 2-2 record in the round robin, which put them in a three-way tie for second place. After the tie breaking procedure was used, the Bears claimed second place.

This set up a gold medal match between the Bears and the Cougars, who went through the round robin undefeated. The Cougars defeated the Bears during the round robin by 12 points Friday evening.

In Sunday's final, the Bears were ready for the rematch. Battlefords was especially tough on defence and made it difficult for Regina to score. The teams were evenly matched, but the Bears opened up a 10-point gap in the third quarter and never looked back en route to the championship.
