Beavers, Brewers win in thrillers

Monday night at Beaver-Lions Stadium, the North Battleford Beavers used a five-run sixth inning to dispose of the Mid-West Expos 6-4.

The Expos got the scoring started in the top half of the 2nd inning, making use of the wildness of the Beaver pitching staff . They utilized five walks, a hit-by-pitch, and three wild pitches to jump up by three by the time the inning came to an end.

Both pitchers settled down to breeze through the next few innings until the bottom of the sixth came, when the Mid-West pitching staff caught a case of the walks, allowing the first four out of five batters on base via walk, and a total of five in the inning. A throwing error by the third baseman allowed the first run to cross the plate from third, and it was only fitting that the winning run came home on a wild pitch by the Expo relief pitcher.

Between the teams, they combined for 22 walks, with connecting for only nine hits combined. The Battleford bump their record to 5-5, while Mid-West drops to 0-7.

Tuesday night, Kindersley took their talents to Wilkie to play the Brewers. The Raiders sent Carter Krese and his 1-0 record to the bump to face the ageless wonder, Bye Braun, in start number one on the season for Braun.

Both teams didn't fool around, as first, Kindersley rocked Braun for two runs on three hits, but in the bottom half, it was Krese's turn as he was tagged for three runs on three hits, two walks, and a costly error by the third baseman.

Kindersley continued the barrage as Braun allowed two more runs on three hits, two of them doubles. After that, both teams defences stepped up, making several sparkling plays, including a gem by the Brew Crew's starting pitcher.

The bottom of the fourth proved to be the inning for the Brewers, as they pulled out three runs, including a clutch RBI by outfielder Jason Schell. After pitching changes to both sides, the pace quickened, as both Byron Ismond for the Raiders and Aaron Sittler for the Brewers mowed the batters down, save for three walks and one hit combined.

Wilkie improves their record to 8-2, while Kindersley is at 5-4

Other scores around the NSRBL look like this: Sunday had all rain outs, except for the Meadow Lake Sox and Lloyd Midgets game, which saw the home town Midgets pull out with a 5-2 victory. Monday night's other games saw the Lloyd Juniors roll into Standard Hill and dispose of the Lakers 4-1 and the Twins running the visiting St. Walburg Reds out with a 13-1 victory.
