Beavers take a bite out of Flyers for first win

The North Battleford Beavers started the season 0-3 and Monday night they were looking for their first win of the season, as they took on the Mervin Flyers. The Flyers entered the game with a 3-2 record, but lost 16-9 to the Beavers.

Kyle Gregoire earned the win after pitching five innings and allowing just a single run. He was also a threat at the plate going 3/5 with a three-run homer. Jared Inkster contributed at the plate by going 4/5 on the night.

Sunday, the Wilkie Brewers made a round trip through St. Walburg and Meadow Lake. In the early game in St. Walburg, the Brewers beat the Reds 8-7. Mitch Nielsen started the game and Bye Braun came in relief to earn the win. Darren Delainey was saddled with the loss for the Reds. Scott Thompson came into the game and all but shutdown the Brewers' offence, but despite a seventh inning rally wasn't enough and the Reds dropped to 0-6 on the season.

Later that day, Aaron Sittler started on the mound for the Brewers and his counter part was Kevin Gerwing. Wilkie took an early lead after a 15-minute rain delay in the third inning. Cody Wilgenbusch stepped up with the bases loaded and hit a double off the centre field wall to clear the bases. Wilkie never looked back and won 9-1 to improve to 4-1 on the season. Meadow Lake sits at 1-2.

Friday under the lights in Kindersley, the Raiders shutout the Flyers for the 4-0 win. Adam Bowden and Jeff Kosloski each had two hits and Carter Krese earned the win. Tyler McKee picked up the save for the Raiders, who improved to 3-1.

Matt Hougham was the losing pitcher for the Flyers, as his team managed just two hits.

Another game under the lights had Inkster face off in North Battleford against the Unity Cardinals. Unity battled to a 5-4 win improving to 3-0. The Cardinals remain the only team to win all their games this season.

Thursday, in Mervin, Kelly Baillargeon gave up three hits, as the Flyers beat the Midwest Expos 9-3. Jordan Mcnab, Adam Gerow and Garrett Knowlton each had two RBI for the Flyers.

Nathan Mullet and Mike Griffiths each pitched three innings for the Expos in the loss.
