The streak continues.
The Battlefords North Stars extended their winning streak to eight games last weekend and during that streak they have had a player honoured with a Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League weekly award.
Blake Tatchell continued the trend of three straight weeks with a North Star among the honoured players. He was named the SJHL player of the week after scoring back-to-back hat tricks on the weekend and recording a total of six goals and three assists in three games. Tatchell moved into fourth spot in the SJHL scoring race this week and is second in the league with 17 goals in 19 games while helping the North Stars to the top of the SJHL standings.
Tatchell is also one of the eight names on the SJHL's website poll asking who has been the valuable player to his team so far this season. Tatchell held the third spot on the poll with 235 of the 1,518 votes behind Jesse Ross of Weyburn (410) and Riley Storzuk of Flin Flon (285).
Honourable mentions for player of the week were the SJHL's leading scorer Andrew Johnston of Humboldt, the third highest scorer, Flin Flon's Storzuk, and the seventh top scorer, Robbie Ciolfi of Humboldt.
Tatchell joins goaltender Graham Hildebrand and defenceman Traivs Sparrow as the three North Stars to earn player of the weekend honours.
The most recent SJHL defenceman of the week is Matthew Weisensel of La Ronge. The 20-year-old defenceman is in his first season in the SJHL and was a major contributor to the Ice Wolves' recent hot streak.
Estevan's Austin Yano, Flin Flon's Tanner Clark and Weyburn's Carter Struthers were honourable mentions for last week.
The goaltender of the week is Alex Rajotte of the La Ronge Ice Wolves. Rajotte wins the award for the second time this season after being an honourable mention to Hildebrand last week.
Alex Wakeluk of Melville, Warren Shymko of Yorkton and Mitch Kilgore of Weyburn were the honourable mentions for the award.
The SJHL player of the month awards were not yet released at press time, but it is expected North Stars Tatchell and Hildebrand will both be given strong consideration for the awards for October.
