The Flin Flon Bombers entered the 2012-13 hockey season ranked as one of the best teams and through the first two weeks, they have proved why.
The Bombers lead the Source Embroidery Power Rankings after a 4-0-0-0 start to the season. Flin Flon was also ranked in the Canadian Junior Hockey League's Top 20. The Bombers hold the fourth spot and jumped from 10th last week.
No other Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League team made the weekly CJHL rankings.
In the SJHL rankings, La Ronge is the next North Division team in the rankings at third, while the Battlefords North Stars found themselves in ninth place, right where they were ranked in the pre-season.
Also on the list of players who are hot through the first two weeks of the season, is North Stars' centre Kyle Hall. Hall will have to bring more offence this season and, to this point, has contributed while still being one of the most well rounded players on the team, if not in the league, at both ends of the ice.
Surprisingly to some, defenceman Brody Luhning was off the list, as he notched four goals and three assists in the North Stars' first four games.
SJHL Players of the Week
For the week ending Monday, Rhyse Dieno of La Ronge was named the player of the week. He had nine points in his first five games. He has already had two-three point games this season as well.
Tyler Kauk of Estevan was named the defenceman of the week after earning a goal and an four assists in three games.
Kindersley, who had a bit of a surprising start to the season, had players earn the goaltender of the week and rookie of the week. Connor Gay was the week's top rookie with four points in the three games he has dressed in.
Warren Shymko is expected to be the backbone of Kindersley's success this season and North Stars' fans got a glimpse of that when the Klippers started the season in a home-and-home with the North Stars. Shymko has three wins in four starts and a 1.97 goals-against average.
The SJHL also named Sean Aschim of Melville the player of the week for the first week of the season. Josh Roach of Flin Flon was the top defenceman, Kale Thomson of Yorkton was the top goaltender and Rhett Kehoe of Melville was the young gun of the week.
