The Border City Blue Jays are off to a strong start in the NSRBL season, winning their first three games.
The Blue Jays opened up the NSRBL season with an 8-6 win over the Midwest Expos May 20.
Jason Fetcher hit a two-run home run to spark the offense for the Blue Jays. Bryce Kochan and Scott Willis also had two RBIs in the game for Border City. Brent Laevens and Landon Noyes each knocked in a run.
Kochan pitched four innings, gave up two earned runs and struck out four Expos en route to his first win of the season. Fetcher came in for the save and pitched a perfect final inning.
Justin Tindall and Kyle Hautakangas each picked up two RBIs in the Expos' loss. Nathan Mullet and Joey Scherger both had an RBI for Midwest. Mullet was saddled with the loss, pitching two and two-thirds of an inning. He gave up two earned runs and struck out one.
The Blue Jays followed that performance with a 12-1 win over the St. Walburg Reds May 22. Border City improved to 3-0 with a 10-0 win over the Standard Hill Lakers Tuesday night.
The Expos picked up their first win of the season May 22, edging the Lakers 5-4.
There were two other games Tuesday night. Midwest beat St. Walburg 3-1 to improve to 2-1 on the season.
The Unity Cardinals won their first game of the year 11-0 against the Wilkie Brewers in Tuesday's final game. Cory Wildeman picked five innings of one-hit baseball, striking out four batters. Scott Greenwald led Unity's offence with three RBIs. Cory Hoffman and Mark Ralston also knocked in two runs each.
The Brewers' pitchers had control issues during the game. Robert Cey and Blaine Brown combined for 13 walks over four innings pitched.
The Blue Jays sit on top of the standings with a 3-0 record. Unity, the league's other undefeated team, sits second. The Expos sit in third, sporting a 2-1 record. Wilkie, Standard Hill and St. Walburg are all winless to start the season.
The final six teams in the NSRBL take the field for the first time this weekend.
