Four division of regional volleyball playoffs wrapped up on the weekend, and the Northwest has several boys teams advancing to provincials, after impressive, medal-winning performances.

At the 1A level, both Borden and Medstead will advance to provincials in Broadview.

Medstead was the host site for regionals, as Borden, Perdue, Glaslyn and the host team advanced to the playoff round Saturday. Borden easily beat Perdue in the semifinal winning 25-10, 25-8.

In the other semifinal, Glaslyn forced Medstead to three sets, but eventually fell short 22-25, 25-16, 25-23 and missed out on a shot at provincials. For seeding purposes, bragging rights and a gold medal, Medstead and Borden faced off in the regional final and in two sets Borden prevailed with 25-12, 25-22 scores.

Joining Borden and Medstead this weekend will be Fox Valley, who have won a provincial championship in nine of the previous 10 years as well as Bellevue, Vanguard, Annaheim, Kincaid, Mossbank, Manor and Broadview.

In Maymont, the 2A regional title was up for grabs, but the host team prevailed with a perfect 4-0 record in the round robin playoff. Maymont did, however, need three sets to win three of their four matches to capture the gold medal.

Pierceland and Paradise Hill were both 2-2 and earned provincial berths while Montreal Lake and Edam were 1-3 and had their seasons come to an end.

Maymont, Paradise Hill and Pierceland will be in Muenster with Leader, Waldheim, Cabri, Arcola, Hepburn, Cupar and Muenster.

Neilburg won the 3A regional championship, which was played in Cut Knife after wins against Hillmond in the final, Makwa in the semifinal and Cut Knife and Minahik Waskahigan in the round robin.

Nielburg travels to Carnduff this weekend along with Kelvington, Hillmond, Saskatoon Christian, Montmarte, Kinistino, Rosthern Junior College, Redvers and Keethanow.

Wilkie will host the 4A provincial title and officially earned their spot at provincials with a silver medal from regionals last weekend.

Wilkie lost 24-26, 25-20, 25-19 in the regional final in La Loche to Rossignol.

Unity failed to make the playoff round from their pool and had their season come to an end after a long trip north.

Wilkie will host Oxbow, Nipawin, Rossignol, Caronport, Moose Jaw Cornerstone, Yorkton Sacred Heart, Shaunavon, Creighton and Jonas Samson from Meadow Lake, an all Grade 9 team this weekend.
